ICL 1For patients with very high near-sightedness, which is too severe to correct with LASIK, there is a new procedure which may be a better alternative.

The Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a phakic IOL, or an intra-ocular lens which is implanted in the eye without removing the natural lens. It is ideal for patients between the ages of 25 and 40, and can be thought of as a surgically implanted contact lens.

ICL 2As the natural lens is still in place, a younger patient can maintain their near vision for tasks such as reading. The ICL has the advantage of being able to correct very high amounts of near-sightedness and is removable. If you think you may be a candidate for ICL, schedule a free consultation at New Vision Laser Center.
