retinaThe retina is the light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the inner eye. It acts like the film in a camera -- images come through the eye's cornea and lens and are focused on the retina. The retina then converts these images to electric signals and sends them via the optic nerve to the brain. Conditions which do not allow the retina to function properly include macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal detachment, epiretinal membrane, macular hole, retinal artery and vein occlusions, as well as infectious and inflammatory retinal diseases. Patients with these and other conditions should see a retina specialist for diagnostic testing including OCT imaging, and medical or surgical treatments including intraocular injections, laser surgery and vitrectomy surgery.

At New Vision Laser Center, patients can consult with a retina specialist from Retina Consultants based in Elgin who sees patients at our Rockford office. Retina Consultants is an independent practitioner and is not affiliated with New Vision.

If you would like to be evaluated by Retina Consultants, please call their office directly at 847.299.0700 and ask to be scheduled in Rockford, or visit their website for more information.
