astigmatism correcting 1For patients with astigmatism who are having cataract surgery or Clear Lens Exchange, the astigmatism can now be corrected at the time of surgery with a Toric Intra-Ocular Lens (Toric IOL).

Astigmatism is an asymmetric shaped cornea which can distort vision. A patient with astigmatism requires glasses or contact lenses to correct it. An alternative is to have a Toric IOL implanted at the time of cataract surgery or Clear Lens Exchange.

Your surgeon will use special maps and measurements of the cornea to calculate the amount and direction of your astigmatism. A computer program is then used to choose the proper Toric IOL for your eye, and then at the time of surgery it is implanted in your eye and precisely aligned to your specific astigmatism.

Toric IOLA Toric IOL can reduce your need for glasses after surgery for distance vision, although you will still require reading glasses for near vision.

Your surgeon at New Vision Laser Center will discuss with you all of your surgical options including Toric IOLs if you have astigmatism. Contact us for your free consultation today.
